Our Story

We believe high quality living doesn’t have to be expensive.

MU Living is the brainchild of Terence and Candice, two homeware passionates at TripCanvas, a regional digital travel media promoting travel to Indonesia since 2014.

As frequent travellers to Indonesia, we fell in love with aesthetic Balinese homeware handcrafted from natural materials and designed by talented Balinese artisans. Many of these are actually crafted from high-quality, hardy, long-lasting and rot-resistant natural materials such as teakwood.

Aesthetic teakwood homeware and kitchenware not only look and feel good, but are also gentle on your pot and pans, unlike stainless steel kitchenware. And unlike silicones, teakwood does not release harmful chemicals.

On top of this, teak is longer-lasting than other cheaper types of wood often used for homeware, such as beech and acacia wood. In fact, teak is one of the most premium and highest quality wood most suitable to be used in furniture and homeware. It is also heat-resistant – perfect for your kitchenware and utensils.

Unfortunately, these are often expensive once exported out of Indonesia, due to high shipping costs, too many middlemen, high retail markups, etc.

Hence, we wanted to find a way to bring these beautiful and long-lasting Balinese homeware back to Singapore at more affordable prices, so that more people can have access to them without forking out a premium.

We believe that enjoying a higher quality of life at home doesn’t have to be expensive.

And this is how our home living brand, MU Living, was born.
